On January 1, 2017, the MFA of Russia cancelled the experiment in issuing short-term tourist visas "Tourism 72 Hours" to foreign and stateless citizens in the Kaliningrad Region.

Issues of simplified visa procedure for foreign citizens entering the Kaliningrad Region are to be settled by the Federal Law “On the Special Economic Zone in the Kaliningrad Region”. Draft amendments  to the law aforementioned have been elaborated by Russian Ministry of Economic Development by the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation. The MFA of Russia has given the proper recommendation thereon.
