Question

Dear Sir, I am a citizen from Hong Kong and I am holding passport of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) issued by the People’s Republic of China.

I am interested to include a visit to Kaliningrad in a coming trip to Poland around December 2016.  I may fly to Kaliningrad via Moscow, and then go by bus to Gdansk, Poland; or on the opposite direction to enter Kaliningrad by bus from Gdansk, Poland, and then fly out to Moscow.

According to information from the Consulate General of Russia in Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR passport holder can visit Russia visa-free for a period of 14 days:

http://russia.com.hk/en/visa/english-conditions-of-entry-of-foreign-nationals/english-visa-free-access-for-hksar-and-macau-sar-passport-holders

Does the visa-free arrangement for Hong Kong SAR passport also apply to Kaliningrad region?  Can I enter Kaliningrad without a Russia tourist visa, from any land border control point from Poland by bus (I am not sure which border control point the bus from different bus company will use)?

If I fly to Kaliningrad from Hong Kong via Moscow on Aeroflot flight, it will be a domestic flight to Kaliningrad, and I will enter Russia at Moscow airport, am I right?

Question

Dear Sir/Madam, I am planning a summer holiday for my family (myself, my wife and 2 daughters - 15 & 17 years old) travelling through northern Poland to Lithuania by car. We would very much like to include a short visit to Kaliningrad. Regarding the 72-hour visa, I have a few queries:- Do I need to apply for myself, my wife and our daughters separately (i.e. 4 visas)? Or is it only applicable for myself and my wife? Or just myself? - My car insurance does not presently include the Russian Federation. Can I get temporary insurance cover at the border?- My health insurance provides world wide cover for me and my family. Do I need any supporting documentation? Or are our health insurance cards sufficient?- I have made a hotel reservation already. Do I need a formal invite from the hotel? Or do hotel reservations have to be made via one of the approved travel agencies in Kaliningrad? (It would not be a problem for me to cancel my reservation, if needed.) Looking forward to hearing from you shortly. Kind Regards, Paul Hodgetts

Answer

1) Concerning work on a student visa we are informing you on the following. According to Russian legislation, foreign students of Russian education institutions can work without labour permit in two cases:

- during holidays;

- as supporting staff in institutions of which they are students.

Students of full-time courses of Russian institutions of higher education have the right to be employed on the ground of labour permit. The labour permit is issued to the foreign citizen for the period of his/her labour contract duration but for no more than a year. Labour permit cannot be valid for the period exceeding the period of study.

For information on prospects for getting Russian state scholarship, you can consult Russian Embassy (http://rusembindia.com/ ) as well as the Mission of Rossotrudnichestvo in India (http://ind.rs.gov.ru/ ).

For information on arrival procedure, you can visit the web-site http://en.russia.edu.ru/tips/inout/ .

2) You can obtain only a student visa.

3) For visiting Schengen States it is necessary to get a Schengen visa.

4) Analysis of employment prospects is beyond our competence.

5, 6) Unfortunately, the problem of racism is topical in the whole world. In the meantime, Russia is a multi-ethnic country where there are about 200 nationalities including those of Asia.

7) It is the university which initiates the visa process. At first, you should send to Kaliningrad State Technical University (KSTU) a copy of document confirming previous education including the list of subjects and marks as well as its certified translation either into Russian or English; a copy of national identity document and a special filled form (the university sends you this sheet at request). KSTU will consider your documents and make a decision. If it is positive, an invitation letter will be issued to you.

Having arrived at the place of study, a foreign citizen must appear at the chosen university during 24 hours for enrollment and registration procedure.

Hello Sir/Madam, Myself Rajesh, Indian citizen, currently I am student in Warsaw. I would like to travel Kaliningrad as a tourist. Kindly let me know if I have to apply for Russian Visa in Embassy of Russia, Warsaw or Can I obtain visa at the border? Thanks and Regards, Rajesh V

Question

Hello, I'm a US citizen, but am resident full time in the UK. I understand that I am not eligible for the 72 hour visa for Kaliningrad. How do I go about getting a tourist visa? Unfortunately, to make matters worse, I am currently traveling in France. Is there any chance I can get the visa from the Russian Embassy in Paris?

Many thanks Mark Buchanan

Answer

You may apply for a Russian tourist visa in France at a local Russian Consulate or the Consular Section of the Russian Embassy. We would like to remind you, that you will need to apply for a visa in advance.

Question

Good Morning We, my wife (UK Passport) and myself (Austrian Passport), both retired and resident in Switzerland plan a trip by car (privately planned, no travel agent involved) thru Poland, the Kaliningrad region to Lithuania. Reading all the regulation, I understood that the 72 hours visa can be obtained at the border. Is this correct, if not, where can I get a visa? Kind regards Gerhard Wedenig Rebbergstrasse 13 CH 5417 Untersiggenthal Switzerland

Answer

To obtain a 72-hour visa you will have to apply to a tourist agency. Click here for more information.

Question

Hello, I am German and planing a trip by ferry Kiel-Klaipeda and ongoing by bus or bicycle to Kaliningrad. From there I want to visit the coast and leave southward over Poland. Since this trip is individual, I do like to order hotel on-site. 72 hours seemed sufficient for me. Now I found out, that the offered 72-hour-visa doesn't fit, as it requests ordering this visa over 5 given tourist agencys plus you have to enter Kaliningrad area over 2 polish checkpoints or airport. Would you mind to tell me which visa might fit to the above travel route? Thank's in advance! Sincerely yours, Jürgen Mai

Answer

In your case, Russian tourist visa is obtained at a nearest Russian consulate.

Question

Hello. I am a British male on a bicycle trio through Europe, and I would like to enter Kaliningrad start at the Polish Goldap-Gusev border control and then exit a few hours later at the Nesterov-Kybartai Lithuania border control. I will be in Russia for just 2 or 3 hours. What paperwork will I need for this to be possible? Kind Regards Kevin Hawthorne.

Answer

You cannot obtain a 72-hour visa at the border checkpoint mentioned. In your case, it is necessary to apply to a Russian consulate in the country of your residence or stay for a Russian transit visa. You should do it in advance.

Question

Dear Sirs, we are two people which will visit the Klainingrad region (Svetlogorsk, Zelenogradsk...) and Kaliningrad itself for a week or max. 10 days. Do we get the invitation for the Visa from one of the agencies mentioned on your Website ? Or is it enough we get the invitation from the hotel we booked? Thank you very much for your answer. With kind regards

Answer

At our website, there are some agencies responsible for 72-hour visas. While planning 7-10-day stay in the Kaliningrad region, You can consult them as well as other tourist agencies. Nevertheless,  it is not enough to book a hotel to get tourist visas.

Question

Hi, we are 2 senior citizens from Switzerland and wish to visit Kaliningrad this summer and have the following questions: 1. As pensioneers we don't work anymore, so we don't have an employer and a working address. Is that a problem? What should we write on the application form? 2. Prior to our arrival in Kaliningrad we will be travelling in Poland without a specific schedule so we are not sure of our arrival date. Is the arrival date flexible or must the arrival date be very specific? 3. We are a bit confused about the procedure. If we get a visa on arrival at the border post, why do we need to apply beforehand to a travel agency? What is the role of the travel agency in the visa procedure? 4. Very simple: if we arrive unannounced at the border by bus from Gdansk with a valid passport and a hotel reservation, can we get a 72 hr visa on the spot? We would appreciate very much your clarification on this matter. Thank you and best regards.

Answer

72-hour visa is a tourist one. Thus, it is issued only after application by the tourist agencies mentioned at our website. The agencies submit documents to our Representation for us to issue the visa. To get such visa, You should call any tourist agency You choose beforehand and inform them about the date of your entry and departure. Our representatives are NOT always available at the check-point. The visa is issued only at entering the region.

Question

Hello, we are four people (three residing in Finland, one residing in France) planning to visit Kaliningrad this summer in a camper van. We would like to enter the Oblast of Kaliningrad through Mamonovo, go to Kaliningrad and exit the country at Sovetsk. Is it allowed to do this trip with a camper van ? Can we enter and exit the Oblast through the aforementioned cities ? What type of visa do we need and through which company can we get the needed visas ? Have a nice day ! Regards, Laurent

Answer

If You are planning to stay in the Kaliningrad region for no more than 3 days, You can obtain 72-hour tourist visas at one of the tourist agencies mentioned at our website: http://kaliningrad.mid.ru/oformlenie-viz. You can enter with a camper van at Mamonovo checkpoint and leave the region through Sovetsk. If your stay in the region is longer, it is necessary to obtain a tourist visa domiciliary at any Russian consulate.

Question

Dear Russian MFA Representation in Kaliningrad, I am a Swiss citizen and I have a single entry Russian visa for the following dates: 15-30 August 2015 I would like to visit Kaliningrad: 24-26 August 2015 I will be travelling from St. Petersburg with an Aeroflot domestic flight directly to Kaliningrad. May I just confirm that I can do that on my single entry visa (I will not be leaving the country) without having to apply for a 72-h special visa for Kaliningrad? Many thanks. Kind regards

Answer

Domestic flights are possible within the period of your visa validity.

Question

Good day, could you please point me to the right direction in my situation... We want to travel from Nida (Klaipeda, Lithuania) to Gdansk (Poland) and we want to go all the way Curonian Spit. Basically we will need to enter Kaliningrad in Pogranperekhod Kurshskaya Kosa and leave Kaliningrad in Mamonovo. We want to do all this in 1 day, so we don't plan staying there, just stopping around at some places. In your page I see you still have information about 72 hrs visa, but I read in newspapers, that 72 hrs visas were declined and not issued anymore. Please confirm, if there is any simple way to cross Kaliningrad oblast and if so, maybe you could share the official link with all details required for crossing Kaliningrad (transit) visa? Thank you in advance

Answer

The procedure of issuing 72-hour tourism short-term visas has been in effect since December 31, 2015. However, these visas are issued only at the border between Poland and the Kaliningrad region (Russia) – at Bagrationovsk and Mamonovo border checkpoints (if travelling by car) or at Khrabrovo airport. To enter the Kaliningrad region through the Curonian Spit, one should obtain a transit visa at any Russian Consulate at the place of residence.

Question

Good morning, I have a question. I am US citizen and have a multiple visa to visit Russia during 3 years, but I never visited Russia yet. I will be on a long vacation in Latvia next month, and from there I plan to visit Kaliningrad, Russia for the first time next month, just for a few days. When I applied for my visa I used a tourist voucher from a Hotel I booked in St. Petersburg, but I have never gone to St. Petersburg yet. I will probably cancel my hotel reservation in St. Petersburg or change it for a later date as I prefer to Kaliningrad now. Is this a problem for my visa? My question is, if I can enter for the first time to Russia to Kaliningrad? even if my tourist voucher is for a hotel in St. Petersburg? Do I need to get a new tourist voucher for Kaliningrad? or I don't need a new tourist voucher, since my visa is multiple? Thanks! Marco

Answer

You can enter Russia for the first time through Kaliningrad as well as through any other Russian city. You will need neither tourist voucher nor Saint-Petersburg hotel reservation. If you are going to stay in Kaliningrad for no more than 7 days, there is no need for you to have registration as a foreign citizen. If the period is longer, we recommend you to book a hotel in advance, where they will give you a registration document.

Question

Hello,

I´m German and I´m planning to go to Gdansk in some weeks.  From there I want to make a short trip to Kaliningrad by bus from Gdansk (and back again). As I could read I have to cross the border Braniewo-Mamonovo. Then I need a tourism visa for 72 hours. I could read that I get a visa at one of the following travel agencies:

Anuta" http://www.anuta.ru/

BaltМА" http://www.baltma.ru/

Nokturne" http://www.nocturne.ru/

Swena tour" http://www.swena.ru/

Universal tour" http://www.uni-tour.ru/

My question is where are these agencies? Will I find them just when I crossed the border? How much is a visa and can I pay the fee with Euros? Because at my entry I won´t have Russian rubles. And when I need rubles, is it possible to change money before I pay for the visa? My last question: I also could read "The visa is valid for 72 hours since 00.00 of the date pointed in visa." When I entry f. e. at 13:00 at day no 1, do it means that I lose 13 hours? Do it means that I have to depart at the latest 24:00 at day no 3?

Answer

The tourist companies mentioned are located in Kaliningrad. You should obtain the visa in advance. Please consult any company for more details including border customs procedure and procedure of obtaining the short-term tourism visa for 72 hours.

Due to peculiarities of the border visa issuing point working hours, another 24 hours are added. Thus, the period of your visa validity – 72 hours – is not to be shortened. The tourist agency representative will specify the rules for your stay and calculate your exiting date.

Question

Good evening, My brother and I are planning a trip from Gdansk via Kaliningrad to Vilnius etc. As Schengen citizens and with only 1 night's stay in Kaliningrad, we fulfil the general conditions for a 72-hour visa for Kaliningrad oblast, but we have a question regarding the entry checkpoint requirement: If we decide to travel from Gdansk to Kaliningrad by coach (e.g. Ecolines), we won't know which exact way the coach will take. Supposing it crosses the border on the motorway E28, are we right in assuming that that is NOT Mamonovo checkpoint (as on maps, Mamonovo looks to be on the A194)? Does that mean coach travellers automatically disqualify for the 72-hour visa and need full tourist visas for a trip to Kaliningrad? Should you require any further details to answer our question we will be happy to clarify.

Thank you very much in advance. Kind regards.

Answer

You will need to apply for 72-hour tourist visa through one of the tourist firms beforehand, so all the details (mode of transportation, preferred checkpoint and time of the border crossing) will be coordinated in accordance with your preferences and existing rules.

Question

Hi, We are planning to visit Kaliningrad by bike. We plan to enter through the checkpoint Curonian Spit and leave to Poland through the checkpoint at Mamonovo. Is this allowed and problemless and could visa for Kaliningrad be issued on the border or must it be issue in advance? best regards Yngve Øines , Norway

Answer

72-hour tourist visas are not issued at the Curonian Spit checkpoint. You can receive the visa only when crossing the Russian-Polish border through Bagrationovsk-Bezledy and Mamonovo- Braniewo and at the Khrabrovo Airport (but you will need to apply for it first through one of the tourist firms). We recommend you to apply for a visa beforehand in a Russian consulate at the place of your residence.

Question

Dear Sir or Madam, Can a German citizen transit Kaliningrad with a 72-hours-express-visa within one day without staying overnight? Thank you very much! Kind regards

72-hour short-term visa is not a transit but a tourist visa, you're allowed to stay in the Kaliningrad region as long as you like, but without exceeding the visa duration.

Answer

You will need to receive a visa beforehand from a Russian consulate at the place of your residence.

Answer

With the 72-hour tourist visa you're allowed to enter the Kaliningrad Region unlimited amount of times. We'd like to remind you that entry with 72-hour visa is possible only through Polish-Russian checkpoints (Mamonovo/Bagrationovsk) and Khrabrovo Airport.

Question

Dear Sir or Madame, Sorry for bothering you but I have a simple question that requires an answer. I have met a young lady on line who wants to come and visit me here in England. She said she has moved to Moscow to complete visas applications before travelling to meet me. Due to the fact she has purchased a new laptop to communicate with me she does not have enough money to purchase the ticket to fly. To which I replied not a problem as I would purchase the ticket for her. To which she replied that is not possible as the strict laws in Russia do not permit this due to the amount of fraud in the country. So my question is this: Is this actually true or is this just a complete scam? Thank you so much for help in this matter Kind Regards

In Russia, as in other countries, there is a system of buying e-tickets via Internet.

Question

Dear Sir, I am planning a cycling trip along the Baltic coast next year on Euro Velo 10 http://www.eurovelo.com/en/eurovelos and would like to visit Kaliningrad as an important part of this trip. Is it possible to use the 72 hour Kaliningrad visa entering by bicycle at Mamonovo and exiting to Lithuania via the Curonian spit (following the Euro Velo route)? This section is some 30 days into our trip, must you specify an exact arrival date on the visa? or is there scope to arrive + /- 3 days of the date as long distance trips like this it is difficult to specify an exact date and some flexibility would encourage cycle tourism along this route. kind regards

Answer

The 72-hour tourism visa is issued only if you provide exact date and time of border checkpoint crossing. It will be more convenient for you to apply for common tourist visa that can be valid for up to 30 days.

Question

I am arranging a 72 hours visa for early December and plan to enter the Kaliningrad Region by bus from Poland. Is it correct that the Mamonovo checkpoint has a representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs constantly available there to issue visas which have been arranged through the authorised travel agents? I understand that this is not the case at Bagrationovsk where one must be specific about time of arrival in the visa application so that a representative can make arrangements to be present. If this is the case, it will be preferable to travel by bus via Mamonovo as bus timetables are often unreliable. Your advice will be very much appreciated.

Answer

When you apply for 72-hour tourism visa, you must choose the border checkpoint you want to cross (Mamonovo or Bagrationovsk). In either case you will be required to provide the exact date and time you are going to cross the chosen checkpoint.

Question

My name is Armin Korschan, I am holding a German Passport, residing in Melbourne Australia.

My mother was born in East Prussia & I would like to visit the area near Goldap for 1 – 2 days while travelling in Poland in October 2014. I am wondering how I could obtain a visa. My plan is to ride a pushbike from Goldap to the area, about 18 kilometres, as my mother (who passed away 15 years ago) used to ride  school. I am nearing 60 years of age, this has been on my mind for a long time and I wonder if that is possible from your point of view?

Thank you kindly for reading this & considering my visa application.

Regards

Answer

As a tourist visiting the Russian Federation you have two options. On the one hand, you can obtain a tourist visa from any Russian consulate at the place of residence or in Poland. On the other hand, you can apply for a 72-hour tourism visa (which is issued only on the Russia-Poland state border and Khrabrovo airport) by contacting one of the travel agencies listed on our site here. Keep in mind, that if you choose to apply for 72-hour tourism visa, it will be issued only on Russia-Poland border at the Mamonovo or Bagrationovsk border checkpoints. See here for more information on 72-hour tourist visas.

1) If I enter to Kaliningrad Oblast, for example through Maimovo checkpoint at 19:15 hours on September 16th, the 72 hours since 00.00 of the date pointed in visa as you indicate, starts from 19:15 hours on 16th, or from 00:00 hours on 16th (that is 24:00 hours on 15th) ?.

The additional 24-hour for movement in my way, could be added in any case to the former 72 hours?

2) Is it allowed to enter the Oblast through Bagrationovsk, Mamonovo or Khrabrovo Airport and to leave the country by any other border check point, including those with Lithuania ? Many thanks for your answer.

Answer

Actually, 72 hours start from 00:00 of the date stated in visa. Another 24 hours are added for movement, including border crossing procedure. E.g., if you enter the region on September 16 in the afternoon, you can leave it on September 19 going through whatever border checkpoint you want. While planning your trip, please, consult travel agency manager for specified dates and times of entering and exiting the Russian Federation borders.

Question

Hello, I am an Italian citizen, and I am planning to travel to Kaliningrad in October 2014. I will take a flight from New York to Moscow (SVO), then transfer onward to Kaliningrad.  Do I qualify for the 72 hour special visa if I remain in the airport in Moscow? Or, since my first destination in Russia is Moscow, do I need a regular Russian tourist visa? I will not visit Moscow--simply pass through the airport while coming and going. My visit will be only three days. Thanks, Jonathan

Answer

You need a regular tourist visa issued by a Russian Consulate.

Question

Dear Kaliningrad Visa Authority: Are holders of USA passports eligible for a 72 hour visa to visit Kaliningrad? I am traveling with my family in Poland and would like my children to have the opportunity to visit Russian controlled soil. I thank you in advance for your answer. My family would only visit for one day.

Answer

Dear Mr. Bradley,

We regret to tell you that the US citizens cannot use short-term 72 hour visas.

To visit the Kaliningrad region, you should get a tourist visa that can be issued either by the Russian Consulate in the USA or in the Republic of Poland. It can also be issued by Consular Department of the Russian Embassy in Warsaw or by any Consulate General in Poland such as the ones in Gdansk, Krakow or Poznan.

Question

Dear All, I am French and work for a Swiss company. I plan a business trip with one of my colleague who is Swiss to fly to Kaliningrad for a meeting organized by our Russian colleague (we have an affiliate in Russia). How does it work for the Visa as a French citizen working for a Swiss company as well as for my Swiss colleague? Do we still have time to make a request as the meeting takes place during August 18-22th? Thank you for your prompt feedback.

Answer

Your colleague and you can obtain your visas on the ground of the Russian partner's invitation by applying to any Russian consulate at a place of stay. Besides, you can get short-term 72 hour visas. However, your visit to Russia will then be limited by the period of 72 hours adding 24 hours en route.

The visa is valid for 72 hours since 00.00 of the date pointed in visa. For the movement on your way there is an additional 24-hour. When planning your trip please check the date of the entry and departure in the travel agency.
