The Russian MFA Representation in Kaliningrad was established on August 14, 1992.
The Representation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Kaliningrad actively cooperates with the Goverment of the Kaliningrad region as well as other regional and federal agencies with a view to establishing and developing international political and economic contacts.
It is one of the 37 territorial bodies of the Russian MFA, but at the same time it appears to be a unique enclave body of the Russian foreign policy department.
The Representation renders informational and consular services, issues foreign passports to Russian citizens and visa invitations to foreigners. It is in active cooperation with foreign consular offices functioning in the region.
The Representation implements useful work of immediate issuing visas to foreign citizens, including the EU citizens, at border checking points "Mamonovo" and "Bagrationovsk" as well as at airport "Khrabrovo".
In the context of the EU enlargement, the Russian MFA Representation in Kaliningrad tends to find other effective ways to use new opportunities for developing mutually beneficial international cooperation in the Baltic region.
